Medical Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse

Job Overview

  • Location: Columbus, Ohio
  • Employment type: Travel/Contract
  • Schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week, every other weekend
  • Shift: Nights
  • On-call: None
  • Estimated patient ratio: 1:1–2

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio
  • ICU - Intensive Care Unit (2 years of experience)
  • ICU - Intensive Care Unit experience within the last year
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous travel nursing experience
  • Proficiency in EPIC documentation system

Unit Experience

  • Multisystem organ failure
  • Respiratory failure
  • COVID
  • Sepsis
  • Post-cardiac arrest
  • Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
  • Liver failure
  • Renal failure

Unit Details

  • Continuous glucose monitoring for hyperglycemia
  • Externalized IV pumps for COVID-positive patients

Equipment

  • NxStage CRRT
  • Alaris IV pump
  • GE cardiac monitor
  • GE ventilator
  • Boom lift in each patient room

Compliance and Pre-Start Requirements

  • Emergency contact form
  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start
  • Education accreditation verification for nursing program
  • License verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement
  • Unit-specific competency exam
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start and annually
  • 2 professional references
  • Employment application
  • Skills checklist
  • Ohio background/fingerprint attestation and related facility forms
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate
  • Ethics and compliance policies acknowledgement
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgement
  • Physical exam
  • Tdap
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray
  • MMR immunity or titers for measles, mumps, and rubella
  • Hepatitis B immunity, series, or declination
  • Varicella immunity or titer
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start
  • Flu vaccination or declination during flu season
  • COVID vaccination is recommended but not required
