CVICU Registered Nurse

Overview

• Travel/contract role in Winston-Salem, North Carolina
• Day shift: 6:45 AM–7:15 PM
• 36 or 48 hours per week may be offered
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
• No first-time travelers

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina
• CVICU (2 years of experience)
• CVICU experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• 2 years of critical care experience
• Interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Management of dysrhythmias
• ECMO experience
• Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) management
• Post Cardiac Surgery care (directly from the OR)
• Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring
• Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) experience
• Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD/RVAD) management
• Arterial line management
• Central line care and management

Unit Details

• Post open heart recovery unit
• Also cares for thoracotomies, esophagogastrectomies, and TAVR patients
• Unit uses SBAR for communication
• Float required
• Every other weekend required
• Self-scheduling

Key Clinical Skills

• Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• ECMO
• Intra-aortic balloon pump management
• Post-cardiac surgery care directly from the OR
• Pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz monitoring
• LVAD/RVAD management
• Arterial line management
• Blood product administration
• Central line care and management
• Continuous IV sedation
• Cardiac drip titration
• Ventilated patient care
• ABG interpretation
• Isolation precautions/PPE

Preferred Skills

• Port access and management
• Vasoactive drip titration
• Chest tube insertion/removal assistance
• BiPAP/CPAP management and maintenance
• High-flow nasal cannula
• Ventilator management

Scheduling and Orientation

• Target ratios: 1:1 nights, 2:1 weekends
• Hospital orientation occurs during the first week, with daily class attendance required
• Scrubs: navy, white, or a combination of both

Compliance Notes

• RTO after booking is not allowed
• Additional RTO or call-offs may result in cancellation and DNR status
