Overview

- Contract length: 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit (2 years of experience)
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- Management of chest tubes
- Care of fresh tracheostomies
- Feeding tube care and management
- Management of epidurals
- Management of non-titratable cardiac drips
- IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
- External BiPAP/CPAP management
- Total laryngectomy care
- Doppler flap checks
Clinical Skills / Experience
- Cardiac monitoring
- Chest tube management
- Fresh trach care
- Feeding tube care and management
- Post-op patient care
- Epidural care
- Non-titratable cardiac drip management
- IV insulin protocols and insulin drip titration
- External BiPAP/CPAP
- Total laryngectomy care
- Doppler flap checks
Work Expectations
- First-time travelers accepted
- Locals not accepted
- May need to make up call-in shifts or have them added to the end of the contract, depending on FTE
- Expected to work every other weekend; consecutive weekends may be needed based on unit needs
- May be asked to provide charge nurse coverage with training and resources
- Must be willing to precept and/or have students shadow during the assignment
- May be expected to float to Med-Surg, PCU, or ICU; refusal to float may end the contract
Unit Details
- Surgical PCU with almost ICU-level acuity
- Patient population includes ENT, thoracic, general surgery, urology, and medical overflow
- Staffing ratio: 1:3–4
Compliance / Pre-Start Items
- Background check and education verification required
- Transcript or diploma required
- Physical exam required within 12 months of start
- Fit test required within 12 months of start
- Negative TB screening required within 1 year of start
- TB questionnaire required
- Drug screen required within 12 months of start
- Measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella immunity documentation required
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required
- References required from recent employment
- Employment application must be current and explain gaps of 30 days or more
- Skills checklist required within 12 months of start
- Color blind testing required
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
- Unit competency exam required
- HIPAA acknowledgement required
- Orientation and facility-specific documents required before start
