Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular Surgery

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Unit: Cardiovascular Pre-Op, located in The Heart Tower
• Number of Beds: 4
• Patient Ratio: 1:1
• Staffing Support: RNs, CNC, secretary, manager, shared with CVOR
• Equipment: GE Carescape Monitoring, Fuji ultrasound
• Documentation System: Cerner
• Schedule: Monday to Friday, 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM
• On-Call: Required to stay late 1-2 times per week
• Floating: Within scope of practice and experience

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina
• CVOR (2 years of experience)
• CVOR experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• ACLS
• BLS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Extensive expertise and experience in the RN Circulator role in cardiovascular surgery procedures including CABG, Valve Replacement, VAD Insertions, TAVR, VATS, Lobectomy, Pacemaker/AICD Insertions, Septal Myectomy, Ross Procedure, EVH, IABP Insertions, Femoral Cannulation, and Circulatory Arrest

Skills and Competencies

• Proficient in BCMA and excellent documentation
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
• Strong critical thinking skills
• Excellent communication skills for interdepartmental collaboration

Procedures and Responsibilities

• Large-bore IV starts
• Chin-to-toe hair removal
• Medication administration
• Skin assessment
• Assist with arterial line, central line, and epidural placement
• Transport patients to OR; assist with induction/intubation, positioning, and skin preparation
