Respiratory Therapist Job Details

- Shift: 12-hour day shifts (7am–7:30pm), every other weekend and holiday
- Therapist Autonomy: Protocol-driven care
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $1830–$1970
Registered Respiratory Therapist Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Specialty Training Program
- Current Pennsylvania Respiratory Therapist license
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (American Heart Association)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist credential (NBRC)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification
- S.T.A.B.L.E. Certification
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Preceptor skills preferred
- NICU experience preferred
Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities
- Assess patients' respiratory care needs and develop individualized care plans
- Perform and document patient assessments and therapeutic modalities (aerosolized medications, secretion management, pulmonary volume expansion, oxygen therapy)
- Assist with care and maintenance of artificial airways
- Initiate and manage conventional and high-frequency mechanical ventilators
- Provide age-specific patient and family education for disease management
- Assist in intra-hospital transport of mechanically ventilated patients
- Acute airway management in emergent situations
- Set up and manage non-invasive monitoring (ETCO monitors, pulse oximeters)
- Assist with discharge planning for patients needing respiratory-related DME supplies
- Collect and process arterial blood gas samples
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations
- Function as Shift Coordinator (charge person) when designated after one year of employment
- Assist medical team with fiberoptic bronchoscopy procedures and placement of invasive monitoring lines
- Serve as a preceptor for orientees and students during clinical rotations
- Adhere to regulatory requirements, safety standards, and institutional/national standards of care
