Respiratory Therapist Job Details

Registered Respiratory Therapist Qualifications

• Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license in Pennsylvania
• Minimum 1 year of recent experience as a Respiratory Therapist in a hospital or acute care setting
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (American Heart Association preferred)
• Strong clinical assessment, communication, and patient education skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team

Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

• Deliver intensive respiratory care and patient transport as prescribed by physicians
• Assess, evaluate, and recommend individualized respiratory treatment plans
• Educate patients and families on respiratory therapies, equipment, and discharge instructions
• Administer treatments using ventilators, oxygen therapy, aerosol devices, and nebulizers
• Perform chest physiotherapy and airway suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal)
• Monitor patient status using oximetry and capnography
• Interpret chest x-rays, perform 12-lead EKGs, and recognize basic arrhythmias
• Conduct pulmonary function tests and assist with procedures such as bronchoscopy, tracheostomy, and chest tube placement
• Perform arterial blood gas punctures and analyze ventilation efficiency
• Adhere to laboratory testing protocols for moderate complexity labs
• Provide CPR in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines
• Insert and remove endotracheal tubes as needed
• Set up, operate, and maintain ventilatory equipment
• Document all treatments and patient responses accurately in the electronic medical record
• Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
• Participate in shift handoffs and maintain accurate therapy charging
• Perform additional duties as assigned by hospital leadership
