Medical Lab Scientist Job Details

Location: Towson, Maryland 21204 (Baltimore metro area)
Contract Length: 13 weeks (January 5, 2026 – April 6, 2026)
Shift: Evening shift, Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (5x8-hour shifts, no weekends)
Hours per Week: 40
Setting: Hospital Laboratory
Number of Positions: 2
Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1640–$1770

Medical Laboratory Scientist Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of recent clinical laboratory experience (first-time travelers considered)
ASCP certification required (ASCP-MLS preferred)
BLS certification preferred
Proficient in laboratory equipment and instrumentation
Blood Bank experience required
Experience with Epic charting system preferred
Ability to work independently and troubleshoot lab equipment
Active Maryland or Compact license required
Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
Two professional references required

Medical Lab Scientist Responsibilities

Perform laboratory tests and procedures in blood bank, chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and microbiology
Accessioning, specimen preparation, labeling, and storage
Operate and maintain lab equipment (ACL TOP, CellaVision, Roche Cobas, Sysmex XM)
Conduct PCR testing (flu, group B, MRSA, staph aureus, COVID-19)
Perform quality assurance and control procedures; interpret QC results
Report test results accurately and promptly
Follow safety protocols, including hazardous materials handling and transmission-based precautions
Float within the hospital laboratory as needed
Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams
