Registered Respiratory Therapist Qualifications

• Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license in New York State
• BLS certification (American Heart Association only)
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in a hospital or clinical setting

Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

• Assess and examine patients with pulmonary diseases, respiratory disorders, or complications
• Perform and analyze diagnostic and pulmonary function tests to evaluate lung capacity
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and the healthcare team to develop and implement respiratory care plans
• Monitor patient progress and adjust respiratory treatments as needed
• Administer inhalants, oxygen therapy, and operate mechanical ventilators and related respiratory equipment
• Document patient care by updating medical charts and electronic health records
• Participate in discharge planning and patient education with the medical team
• Train patients on self-administration of respiratory treatments and equipment use
• Recommend respiratory equipment and treatment options for outpatient or home health settings
