Job Requirements / Qualifications

• Graduate of an AMA-approved Respiratory Care program (minimum Associate Degree)
• Active New York State Respiratory Therapist License in good standing (up-to-date CE profile)
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 3 years of experience as an RRT in an academic medical center or similar hospital setting
• Experience with both pediatric and adult critical care strongly preferred (critical care RRT)
• Emergency Department and neonatal respiratory experience is a plus
• Experience with patient transport (inter- and intra-hospital) desirable
• EPIC EHR experience required — familiarity with electronic charting and respiratory flowsheets
• Strong communication, teamwork, and computer skills
• Ability to perform basic math and medication dosing calculations
• Professionalism and strict adherence to ethical standards and HIPAA

Responsibilities

• Assess, treat, and manage patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary disorders in a hospital setting
• Perform respiratory therapy procedures and cardio-respiratory diagnostics under physician direction
• Initiate, monitor, and document therapeutic procedures; maintain accurate patient records in EPIC
• Select, assemble, check, and operate respiratory care equipment (ventilators, oxygen delivery, airway devices)
• Provide critical care support in Adult and Pediatric ICUs, float to Med/Surg as needed
• Respond to emergency department calls and prioritize emergent vs. non-emergent requests for service
• Supervise and collaborate with respiratory therapy technicians and multidisciplinary team members
• Participate in patient transport and handoffs, ensuring continuity of respiratory care
• Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, patients, and families; demonstrate compassionate care
• Adhere to professional dress code and maintain a high standard of ethical conduct
