Job Requirements / Qualifications

• Graduate of an AMA-approved program of Respiratory Care (minimum Associate Degree)
• Active NYS Respiratory Therapist License in good standing (Registered Respiratory Therapist, RRT)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• ACLS certification preferred
• Minimum 3 years of experience as an RRT in an academic medical center or hospital setting
• Experience with both pediatric and adult critical care highly desirable (pediatric respiratory therapist experience a plus)
• Experience with emergency department procedures and patient transport (inter- and intra-hospital) preferred
• Exposure to neonatal patient management is a plus
• EPIC EHR experience required – experience documenting respiratory care in EPIC
• Clinical skills: ventilator management, mechanical ventilation, airway management, blood gas interpretation, and cardio-respiratory diagnostics
• Strong communication, teamwork, and computer skills
• Ability to read, speak, comprehend, and write English fluently

Responsibilities

• Assess, treat, and manage patients with breathing and cardiopulmonary disorders under physician direction
• Perform respiratory therapy procedures and cardio-respiratory diagnostics including arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation
• Initiate and conduct therapeutic procedures such as ventilator management, ventilator weaning, airway clearance techniques, and aerosolized therapies
• Supervise and collaborate with respiratory therapy technicians; ensure proper operation and maintenance of respiratory equipment
• Respond to emergent and non-emergent calls, including rapid response and code situations
• Assist with inter- and intra-hospital patient transport and emergency department respiratory procedures
• Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in EPIC EHR and adhere to hospital policies and regulatory standards
• Participate in ongoing competency assessments, in-service training, and quality improvement initiatives
