Hospital Biomedical Technician (BMET) – Travel assignment in Port Jefferson & Smithtown, NY. 13-week on-site role supporting two Long Island hospital campuses. Ideal for biomedical equipment technicians with hands-on experience in medical device repair, calibration, preventive maintenance and clinical engineering support.

Job Details

• Location: Split between Port Jefferson, NY (11777) and Smithtown, NY (11787) — facilities ~12.9 miles apart (Long Island, Suffolk County)
• Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (April 13, 2026 – July 13, 2026)
• Shift: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (8-hour days)
• Hours per Week: 40
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $1290 - $1380 per week
• On-Site Position: Travel biomedical technician / hospital lab tech role across two facilities

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in Electronics or graduation from an Electronic Technical Trade School
• Minimum 1 year of biomedical technician / BMET experience in a hospital or clinical environment
• Ability to read and interpret electronic schematic drawings
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
• Basic knowledge of electricity/electronics principles and theories
• Familiarity with electronic and electro-mechanical test equipment
• Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office applications
• Basic typing, data entry, and record keeping skills
• Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, stretch, reach, and lift up to 15 lbs
• Excellent verbal and listening skills
• CBET or other biomedical certifications preferred but not required

Key Responsibilities

• Perform performance testing, repair, calibration, and safety testing of medical electronic and electromechanical equipment
• Conduct preventive maintenance and repairs on medical devices per scheduled reports
• Evaluate, test, and screen new and existing medical devices for hazards and compliance
• Install, uncrate, assemble, inspect, and test new medical equipment and systems
• Install manufacturer modifications or upgrades with minimal supervision
• Select, identify, and order repair parts; maintain spare parts inventory and technical library
• Coordinate and provide in-service training for clinical departments; participate in orientation of new employees
• Attend manufacturer technical service schools and stay current on medical device technology, testing procedures, and techniques
• Assist in developing safety policies, test procedures, and device efficiency improvements
• Maintain on-call status as required and assist during snow emergencies or other weather/life-threatening events
• Collaborate with engineering tradesmen and supervisors to expedite job completion
• Provide reasonable accommodations and support for patients and staff with special needs (age, language, disability)
