Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Pathologists' Assistant (PA) for a travel pathology contract within a pediatric-focused anatomic pathology department in Washington, DC (zip code 20010). - Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,440 - $2,620

- Shift: Day shift, Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (5x8-hour shifts)

Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Pathologists' Assistant in anatomic pathology or pediatric pathology (surgical pathology experience preferred)
- PA (ASCP) certification or eligibility required
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.A.) required; graduate of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program
- Valid state license required at time of assignment (DC license must be applied for within 24–48 hours of signing)
- COVID-19 vaccination and current booster required
- Experience with electronic charting systems and laboratory information systems (LIS)
- References strongly preferred and must be available upon request
Key Responsibilities
- Assist pathologists with autopsy procedures and perform non-graphic post-mortem examinations as directed
- Process surgical specimens including labeling, fixation, decalcification, and preparation for specialized studies
- Prepare frozen sections and perform cryostat microtomy, staining, coverslipping, and accurate labeling for rapid diagnosis
- Maintain appropriate storage and disposal of autopsy and surgical tissues in compliance with laboratory policies
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as cryostats, processors, autopsy instruments, cameras, and dictation systems
- Perform independent dissections (simple and complex) with clear dictation and documentation per department guidelines
- Coordinate release of bodies from the morgue during regular laboratory hours when required
- Work with pediatric patient specimens across age groups including neonates, infants, children, and adolescents
