Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,700 – $1,820
  • Location: Washington, DC 20007 (Georgetown area)
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks (May 4, 2026 – August 3, 2026)
  • Shift: Day shift, 5x8-hour (07:00 – 15:30)

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of clinical laboratory scientist experience in a hospital blood bank or transfusion services
  • ASCP MLS or ASCP-BB certification required (MLT NOT accepted for MLS positions)
  • DC clinical laboratory license in hand at time of submission (District of Columbia license)
  • Hands-on blood bank experience: ABO/Rh typing, Antibody Screen & Identification, AHG Crossmatch, Antigen Typing, Tube Method
  • Experience with blood banking procedures including blood irradiation, cord blood evaluation, and transfusion reaction workups
  • Previous travel assignment experience required
  • Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
  • Two supervisor references required

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex blood bank and transfusion medicine procedures: ABO/Rh typing, antibody screening/identification, AHG crossmatch, antigen typing
  • Evaluate cord blood and support neonatal transfusion needs as indicated
  • Conduct transfusion reaction workups, maintain accurate documentation, and ensure patient identification integrity
  • Thaw, prepare, and cool blood products per hospital protocols; perform blood irradiation when required
  • Maintain quality control, follow laboratory safety standards, and comply with hospital and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with clinicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to support patient care and timely transfusion services
