Qualifications / Job Requirements

• ASCP certification required (ASCP-MLS/MT)
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist / Clinical Laboratory Scientist
• Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and troubleshooting skills in a hospital lab setting
• Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory procedures, quality control, and accreditation standards (CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission)
• Experience documenting corrective actions, performing method validation, and participating in proficiency testing
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to train and mentor staff and students

Key Responsibilities

• Support section leadership in oversight of daily laboratory operations, staffing, and scheduling
• Serve as a primary contact for troubleshooting technical issues and resolving complex test performance problems
• Act as General Supervisor for delegated duties as needed, ensuring clinical compliance and patient safety
• Perform and oversee routine and complex clinical laboratory procedures across hematology, chemistry, microbiology, or specialty sections as assigned
• Monitor, perform, and document quality control, maintenance, and calibration activities to maintain regulatory compliance
• Identify, document, and carry out corrective actions; maintain records for audits and inspections
• Participate in method validations, proficiency testing, continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives, and laboratory meetings
• Coordinate and conduct training for new employees, cross-training, and student rotations as directed
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment following hospital and laboratory safety policies

Preferred / Additional Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related field preferred
• Previous lead, charge, or supervisory experience in a hospital laboratory
• Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and electronic documentation
• Experience preparing for CAP/CLIA/JCAHO inspections and audits
