Job Details – Travel Histology Job / Clinical Laboratory
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (travel histotechnologist contract)
- Location: Watertown, NY 13601 – Watertown, New York; Upstate New York histology job
- Setting: Hospital Laboratory – surgical pathology and cytology
- Shift: 8-hour day shifts (start times 5:30am or 6:00am), 5 shifts per week
- Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,890 – $2,030
- Start Date: May 18, 2026
Job Requirements – Histotechnologist / Histology Technician
- Bachelor of Science in medical technology, biology, chemistry, or AAS in Histotechnology (HT) / HTL certification from a recognized agency (ASCP preferred)
- Histotechnician AAS and NY State HTL license required (ASCP HTL or equivalent)
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory or surgical pathology/histology lab
- Proven skills in microtomy, tissue processing, embedding, and routine H&E staining
- Ability to work early morning shifts and comply with a 100-mile radius rule for travel assignments
- Strong attention to detail, good documentation practices, and participation in quality assurance programs
Responsibilities – Surgical Pathology, Cytology & Histology Duties
- Process, embed, cut (microtomy), and stain surgical and autopsy tissue following established laboratory policies and safety procedures
- Prepare and stain cytopathology specimens and support pathologist examination and interpretation
- Perform routine and special stains (H&E, select special stains; experience with IHC a plus) and maintain high diagnostic quality
- Manage patient tissue samples and prepare microscopic sections for accurate diagnosis in a surgical pathology laboratory
- Operate and maintain histology equipment, document inventory, and ensure calibration and preventative maintenance as required
- Participate in the laboratory Quality Assurance program and follow CLIA/CAP guidelines and safety protocols
