Ultrasound Tech Job Requirements

At least 1 year of ultrasound technologist or diagnostic imaging experience
Graduate of an accredited School of Ultrasound Technology or Diagnostic Medical Sonography program
Credentialed by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
Registered in both Abdomen and OB/GYN by ARDMS
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
All certifications and registrations must be active and maintained throughout the assignment

Ultrasound Technologist Responsibilities

Prepare and position patients for ultrasound examinations in a hospital setting
Select the proper transducer type and frequency for each study
Review patient history and supporting clinical information to support diagnostic accuracy
Capture high-quality ultrasound images and evaluate them for technical excellence
Explain procedures to patients and answer questions to reduce anxiety and improve cooperation
Support patient safety, comfort, and dignity during all sonography examinations
Maintain accurate radiology records and properly label all images
Assist physicians with special ultrasound procedures and needle biopsies as needed
Maintain equipment, requisition supplies, and complete related forms to support department operations
Follow departmental policies, infection control standards, fire and disaster plans, and confidentiality requirements
Contribute to ongoing professional development and continuing education
Deliver excellent service to patients, families, visitors, and coworkers in a collaborative healthcare team
