Ultrasound Technologist Job Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations
- Current ARDMS registration in Ultrasound Technology
- Graduate of an accredited ultrasound technology, diagnostic medical sonography, or radiologic technology program
- AHA BLS certification required within 6 months of hire
- Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and sound independent judgment
- Quality-focused, dependable, organized, flexible, and able to manage multiple priorities in a hospital imaging department
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills when working with patients, radiologists, physicians, and the healthcare team
Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Responsibilities
- Perform general, abdominal, obstetric, and small-parts ultrasound examinations using appropriate equipment, transducers, positioning techniques, and technical factors.
- Produce complete, accurate, and diagnostically optimal images for radiologist interpretation, including required measurements, volumes, heart rates, anatomical information, charts, and graphs.
- Review physician orders and clinical history before examinations to confirm that the correct diagnostic imaging study is performed.
- Assess patients and adapt examination techniques to support image quality, comfort, safety, and individual patient needs across all age groups.
- Operate ultrasound systems, image processors, printers, and related computer applications to create accurate final images and patient records.
- Accurately enter patient information, orders, charges, and examination details into the hospital information system.
- Coordinate daily scheduling and patient flow to complete ultrasound examinations efficiently and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain a safe, accessible environment by addressing fall risks, providing appropriate assistance, and following patient safety and security procedures.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, including those with mobility, hearing, endurance, or pain-related needs.
