Medical Technologist Job Details

Medical Technologist Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related laboratory science field
- At least 3 years of experience in a matching Medical Technologist specialty, including clinical Chemistry experience
- Current Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) registration or certification through ASCP, or an equivalent credential from NCA, AMT, or HEW
- Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures, quality control, specimen processing, and diagnostic testing
- Ability to work independently on overnight shifts and participate in on-call coverage
- Two recent manager references
Medical Technologist Responsibilities
- Perform and evaluate quality control procedures to support reliable clinical laboratory results
- Conduct Chemistry and Diagnostic Immunology testing, including STAT and routine laboratory work
- Receive and process a variety of laboratory specimens accurately and efficiently
- Enter test data using the Meditech computer system, computerized worksheets, and instrument interfaces
- Participate in proficiency testing and department quality improvement audits
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic laboratory instrument issues
- Assist with the development of new laboratory methods and evaluate cost feasibility when requested
- Train new employees on department procedures and policies
- Participate in department meetings and collaborate with laboratory staff to improve workflow
- Provide on-call coverage as assigned
