Registered Nurse - OR

Location: Danville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Operating Room (OR) surgical services. This is a travel assignment with a day shift schedule. The facility is a 250-bed academic community hospital with comprehensive surgical services and a 24-hour emergency department.


Position Details

  • Specialty: Surgical Services – OR
  • Shift: Days, 6:30 AM – 2:30 PM
  • Weekly Hours: 40 hours guaranteed
  • Weekend Hours: Every other weekend / as needed
  • Call Requirements: As needed
  • Patient Population: All ages
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR): Meditech
  • Float Requirements: May be asked to float within scope of practice

Required Qualifications

  • License: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Virginia
  • Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIH certification required prior to start (HWC offered on-site)
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience in specialty (Surgical Services/OR)
  • Skills: Orthopedic experience required
  • Preferred: 2+ years of experience in surgical nursing preferred

  • Total joint replacements
  • Spine surgery
  • Abdominal surgery
  • ENT surgery
  • Respiratory failure
  • Congestive heart failure (CHF)
  • Chronic kidney disease (CKD)

Work Environment & Culture

  • Motivated, proactive, and professional attitude expected
  • Must be easy to get along with and willing to seek additional assignments
  • Dress code includes navy blue scrubs provided by the hospital
  • No offensive, gang-related, or hate-related tattoos allowed
  • Earrings must be contained in scrub bouffant; earbuds not allowed on duty
  • Closed-toed shoes with closed heel required; no Crocs with top ventilation holes

Additional Notes

  • Orientation occurs bi-weekly on Tuesdays
  • Candidates must be located 60 miles or more from the facility to qualify as travel staff
  • Complete and clear screenings required before start
