Registered Nurse – Emergency Department

Location: Sanford, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Provide emergency nursing care in a 21-bed Emergency Department, including telemetry, behavioral health, and fast track rooms. The role involves managing a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a diverse patient population of all ages.


Work Schedule

  • Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Hours per week: 36 (weekly guaranteed)
  • Weekend hours: Every other weekend and some holidays
  • Call requirements: None
  • Float requirements: As needed

Unit & Patient Information

  • Unit: Emergency Department
  • Number of beds: 21 (12 telemetry beds, 3 behavioral health beds, 5 fast track rooms)
  • Patient ratio: 1:5
  • Patient population: All ages
  • Common diagnoses/treatments: COPD, DKA, Sepsis, Cardiac Emergencies, Neurological Emergencies, Stroke
  • Equipment: Emergency equipment
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) system: Cerner

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Trauma experience
  • Certifications (must have prior to start):
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
    • De-escalation training such as Healthcare Worker Certification (HWC), Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), or Managing Aggressive Behavior (MAB)

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Emergency nursing, trauma, resuscitation
  • IV therapy, IV drips, oxygen support, blood product administration
  • Basic telemetry/EKG interpretation
  • Experience in Emergency Medicine and Psychiatric Emergency Room is a plus
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced team environment

Additional Information

  • Dress code: Scrubs of any color; no open-toed footwear, spandex pants, or sweatshirts allowed
  • Orientation: Weekly on Mondays
  • Location highlights: Small-town charm with access to nearby metropolitan areas and recreational activities

Notes

  • Candidates must be located 60 miles or more from the assignment location to qualify as travel staff.
