Pharmacist Travel Job – Lynchburg, Virginia


Position Overview

  • Role: Pharmacist (Pharmacy specialty)
  • Employment Type: Travel contract
  • Contract Length: 16 weeks
  • Location: Full hospital pharmacy department
  • Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, with on-call responsibilities after hours for emergencies
  • Weekly Hours: 40 guaranteed
  • Call Requirements: Yes, unless delegated to another pharmacist
  • Patient Population: Rehabilitation, geriatric, adult

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Pharmacist license in Virginia
  • Minimum 2 years of pharmacist experience, including experience within the last year
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately verify and dispense medication orders; oversee and approve pharmacy technician work
  • Participate in medication reconciliation and document clinical interventions per policy
  • Provide clinical pharmacy services including anticoagulant monitoring, therapy optimization, and evidence-based drug utilization protocols
  • Support purchasing and inventory management to ensure safe, cost-effective medication use; complete medication inventories as required
  • Perform daily audits for medication use and environmental monitoring
  • Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff on quality and performance improvement initiatives
  • Educate medical staff and nurses with timely, accurate drug information
  • Maintain positive relationships with medical staff, administration, and patients
  • Comply with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., JC, CIHQ, CMS, DEA, State Board of Pharmacy)
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Function independently with potential remote support

  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) system: Cerner
  • Supervisor: CEO with support from Pharmacy Operations leadership
  • Dress Code: Business casual or black scrubs
  • Reporting Time: 8:00 AM
  • Parking: Side of building, non-visitor spots
  • Personality Fit: Cooperative, team player
  • Common Diagnoses/Treatments: Acute rehabilitation diagnoses

Notes

  • No float requirements
  • This position requires on-call availability and returning to the pharmacy for emergencies outside scheduled hours
