Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Med Surg Detox Unit

Location: Pulaski, Tennessee
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Overview

Seeking a Travel RN for a Detox Unit specializing in Med Surg with experience in managing patients with substance abuse and behavioral health conditions. Experience with CIWA/COWS protocols is preferred.

Unit Information

• Unit: Detox Unit
• Beds: 13
• Patient Population: Adults and Geriatric (occasionally patients as young as 17)
• Patient Ratio: 1:7
• Equipment: IV pumps, Zoll monitor, IV catheters
• EHR System: HMS/Medhost
• Shift: 36 hours per week, every other weekend and as needed
• Call: No call required
• Float: May be required to float to other departments occasionally

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Tennessee
• Minimum 3 years of Med Surg nursing experience, with Med Surg experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current BLS, ALS, and PALS certifications

Common Diagnoses and Treatments

• Substance and polysubstance abuse
• Alcohol-related conditions (ETOH)
• Behavioral health conditions
• Hypertension, syncope, seizures, liver disease, cognitive changes
• High fall risk patients
• Treatments include valium tapers, Subutex, Vivitrol, banana bags, rescue medications, and routine/home medications

Work Environment and Expectations

• Weekly orientation on Mondays
• Must comply with Tennessee Abuse Registry check prior to start
• Expected to complete required audits and processes including bedside shift report, briefs, debriefs, and unit checks
• Education requirements to be completed during contract
• Professionalism and respect for staff and facility standards required
• Dress code: solid color scrubs; no outerwear with logos, hoodies, open-toed shoes, or jewelry that could be a safety risk
