Registered Nurse - OR (Surgery)

Location: Los Alamos, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Operating Room (OR) - Surgery specialty at a 47-bed acute care facility. The role involves working in Surgery with a focus on perioperative care including Pre-Op, OR, and PACU units.


Unit Information

  • Department: Surgery
  • Number of Openings: 1
  • Shift: See shift details
  • Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36
  • Weekend Hours: Every other weekend / as needed
  • Call Requirements: As needed; approximately 10-11 days per month (may increase to 15-16 days if staffing is limited)
  • Float Requirements: As needed, including Pre-Op
  • Beds: 3 OR, 3 PACU, 5 Preop
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1 or 1:2
  • Patient Population: All ages
  • Electronic Health Records (EHR): CQI and Medhost

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience in Operating Room (OR) - Surgery specialty, including experience within the last year
  • Pre-op float experience (as needed)
  • Required Certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
    • Healthcare Worker Certification (HWC)
  • Must be fingerprinted and undergo background check as per New Mexico state requirements (travelers may start on a 14-day waiver with supervision while results are pending)

Additional Information

  • Orientation is held weekly on Mondays
  • Candidates must be located 60 miles or more from the facility to qualify as travel staff
  • Dress Code: Hospital-provided scrubs; casual wear and open-toed shoes are not allowed
  • Travel experience is a plus but not required

  • This is a travel assignment requiring flexibility with call and weekend hours
  • Professional demeanor and adherence to facility policies are expected
  • Must have all required certifications at time of submission; certifications are not provided onsite
