Registered Nurse - Surgery

Location: Los Alamos, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Surgery for a 13-week travel assignment at a 47-bed acute care facility. The role involves working in the Surgery department with a focus on operating room (OR), post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), and preoperative care.


Unit Information

  • Department: Surgery
  • Beds: 3 OR, 3 PACU, 5 Preop
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1 or 1:2
  • Patient Population: All ages
  • Electronic Health Records (EHR): CQI and Medhost

Work Schedule

  • Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36
  • Weekend Hours: Every other weekend / as needed
  • Call Requirements: As needed; approximately 10-11 days per month (may increase to 15-16 days if staffing is limited)
  • Float Requirements: As needed, including Pre-Op

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Registered Nurse license valid in New Mexico
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • HWC (Healthcare Worker Certification)
  • Must comply with New Mexico state fingerprinting and background check requirements (travelers may start on a 14-day waiver with supervision while results are pending)

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New Mexico
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
  • Healthcare Worker Certification (HWC)

Additional Information

  • Orientation is held weekly on Mondays
  • Professional demeanor required
  • Dress code: Hospital-provided scrubs; casual wear and open-toed shoes are not allowed
