Job Description

The Level 1 RN in the Psychiatric Emergency Room conducts intake assessments through interviews with patients and their relatives to gather case history. The RN plans and provides nursing care, makes nursing diagnoses regarding the medical and emotional status of patients, and recommends treatment options. Collaboration with psychiatrists and other behavioral health staff is essential in designing appropriate treatment plans. Additionally, the RN administers and notes reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications, arranges further medical attention when necessary, and assists clients in understanding their emotional disturbances and the need for treatment. The RN also has a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for both staff and patients, testing for vital signs of pain, ensuring pain treatments are attended to, and documenting all patient information on medical charts according to physician orders, while upholding patient confidentiality and accurate recordkeeping.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake assessments and gather case history from patients and relatives.
• Plan and provide comprehensive nursing care for patients.
• Make nursing diagnoses based on medical and emotional assessments.
• Collaborate with psychiatrists to design treatment plans.
• Administer medications and monitor patient reactions.
• Arrange for additional medical attention as needed.
• Educate clients about emotional disturbances and treatment acceptance.
• Maintain a safe environment for staff and patients.
• Document patient information and follow established recordkeeping protocols.
• Perform administrative tasks as assigned.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current New York State RN License.
• BLS Certification (AHA).
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant nursing experience.
• CPI Certification.
