Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, and the alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response and through advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN is responsible and accountable for compliance to all standards of practice and professional development in accordance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act, United Health Services, and Nursing Division policies, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, the Emergency Nursing Association Scope and Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Bill of Patient Rights. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care in managing a group of patients.
• Educates patients and families in health promotion and disease management using available resources.
• Utilizes a working knowledge of pharmacology and safely administers medications according to hospital policy.
• Shares responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization, including staffing and time management.
• Complies with all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and hospital policies.
• Actively engages in professional development and continuing nursing education.
• Integrates nursing research and current evidence into practice.
• Provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
• Performs duties related to the Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator role when assigned.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current New York State Registered Nurse License.
• BLS and ACLS Certifications.
• Minimum of 3 years of current experience working in an Emergency Department.
• Previous traveler experience with knowledge in trauma, STEMI, stroke, sepsis, and pediatric care.
