Job Description

The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery is responsible for assessing patients' clinical conditions, recognizing, identifying, and interpreting serious situations. The nurse will prioritize and take immediate action, including informing the physician and executing preplanned measures. The role encompasses the formulation of nursing diagnoses to provide care across the lifespan, from neonates to geriatric patients, including medical, surgical, psychiatric, and obstetrical care.

Responsibilities

• Develop individualized care plans based on patient assessments.
• Initiate emergency measures in situations where a physician is not immediately available.
• Administer prescribed therapeutic measures including medications and IV therapy.
• Provide education to patients and families regarding preventative, curative, and rehabilitative measures.
• Document observations and nursing interventions accurately and timely.
• Evaluate patient progress and update care plans as necessary.
• Oversee patient care administered by licensed practical nurses and unlicensed personnel.
• Maintain a safe and well-supplied nursing environment.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Minimum of 3 years experience in a relevant nursing specialty.
• Current New York RN License.
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to meet physical demands including lifting up to 50 lbs.
