This is a 13-week contract position.
Schedule
Full-time, day or night shifts (3x12s) scheduled as needed, including every other weekend and holidays. Additionally, there are 2 on-call shifts per 4-week period.
Job Description
The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, and collaboratively provides direct care by applying appropriate interventions and evaluating patient progress. The ED RN uses various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions to manage life-threatening and routine emergency situations while utilizing principles of relationship-based care.
Responsibilities
- Connects with patients and families during triage, identifying initial management needs for all age groups and prioritizing care according to Triage Standards.
- Conducts primary assessments, detects major deviations from norms, and identifies necessary interventions.
- Reassesses patients to identify responses to treatment and changes in condition.
- Encourages mutual trust and collaboration among team members to achieve the best patient outcomes.
- Prepares patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments, and teaches home care requirements post-emergency.
- Maintains awareness of the patient's condition throughout the ER visit and updates communication boards accordingly.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Two years of acute hospital experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least one year in an Emergency Department.
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Stroke Certification (must be AHA or RQI).
- New York State RN Licensure.
