Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, and the alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response and through advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN is responsible and accountable for compliance to all standards of practice and professional development in accordance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act, United Health Services and Nursing Division policies, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, the Emergency Nursing Association Scope and Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Bill of Patient Rights. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients, serving as a primary or accountable nurse when designated.
• Educate patients and families in health promotion and disease management using available resources.
• Utilize knowledge of pharmacology and safely administer medications according to UHS Hospitals policy.
• Participate in effective resource utilization including staffing, time management, and supplies.
• Comply with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and UHS policies.
• Engage in professional development and continuing nursing education.
• Integrate nursing research and current evidence into practice.
• Provide a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• 3 years of current experience working in an Emergency Department.
• Previous traveler experience with knowledge in trauma, STEMI, stroke, sepsis, and pediatric care.
• Current New York State Registered Nurse License.
• BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).
• ACLS Certification.
• Professional certification in a related nursing specialty is preferred.
