Description

Operating Room Nurse

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule

8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday; rotating shifts include 0630-1500, 0900-1730, and 1100-1930. Voluntary on-call and weekend coverage opportunities available.

Job Description

Responsible to the Director of Surgical Services, Unit Director/Manager, Clinical Supervisor, and/or designee for overall nursing practice. Provides professional nursing care based on current perioperative nursing knowledge following the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) Standards and Recommended Practice for Perioperative Nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a plan of care based on ongoing assessments of patients in the holding area, operative suite, and post-operative settings.
  • Ensure formation and maintenance of a sterile field consistent with principles of asepsis.
  • Effectively document individualized changes in the plan of care and patient interactions.
  • Provide education to patients and their families regarding surgical nursing functions and the operating room environment.
  • Apply principles of aseptic technique, surgical techniques, and patient care management consistently.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

  • Completion of an accredited registered nurse program required; BSN preferred.
  • 2 years of prior Operating Room experience required.
  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications required; renewal every two years.
  • Willingness to undertake in-house Operating Room course if needed.
