Job Description
The Emergency Room Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care based on current nursing knowledge through the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) standards. The nurse utilizes the nursing process to assess patient needs, develop and implement care plans, and evaluate patient care outcomes for a diverse age population, from neonates to geriatrics. This position requires on-call assignments as needed due to community events impacting Emergency Department patient volumes.
Responsibilities
- Triage patients entering the emergency care system, determining priorities of care based on physical and psycho-social needs.
- Conduct hourly rounding in the department and half-hour rounding in the waiting room for patients waiting for care.
- Document in-depth nursing histories, including chief complaints and relevant health care status.
- Develop and implement plans of care based on ongoing assessments, ensuring availability of supplies and equipment.
- Manage complications and emergencies per established policies and ENA standards.
- Recognize changes in patient health status and direct appropriate care to ensure safety.
- Document and act on patient responses to interventions to facilitate competent medical care.
- Educate patients and families on treatment and discharge planning, ensuring understanding of health status and resources.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Current Pennsylvania RN licensure.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; renewable every two years.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification; renewable every two years.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification; renewable every two years.
- Valid National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Preferred: EPIC Computer Charting Experience.
