Job Description

The Level 1 RN Psych ER is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care in the psychiatric emergency room environment. This includes conducting intake assessments, planning and implementing nursing care, and collaborating with psychiatrists and behavioral health staff to design appropriate treatment plans for patients.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history.
• Plan and provide nursing care for patients, making nursing diagnoses of medical and emotional status.
• Consult with psychiatrists and behavioral health staff in designing treatment plans.
• Administer psychotropic drugs and other medications, observing and noting reactions.
• Arrange further medical attention when necessary.
• Assist clients in understanding emotional disturbances and the need for treatment.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and patients.
• Document patient information accurately in medical charts and follow physician orders.
• Perform administrative tasks such as filing, answering phones, and completing progress notes.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• New York RN License required.
• BLS Certification from the American Heart Association required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in psychiatric nursing.
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification preferred with hands-on training.
