Job Description

Functioning within the Health System’s mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures, the Registered Nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for the care of assigned patients on his/her shift. RN responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care using age-specific criteria. Judgments are made based upon scientific knowledge and clinical skills. The RN also assists in planning, directing, and teaching non-RN staff such as LPN/PCT and Unit Secretaries.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for assigned patients.
• Provide post-operative care for patients with open heart procedures.
• Manage chest tubes and other drains effectively.
• Deliver pre- and post-procedure care for patients using radial and femoral access.
• Monitor cardiac activity and respond to changes in cardiac rhythms.
• Assist with various procedures including chest tube removal and management of temporary pacers.
• Provide direction and support to non-RN staff.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• 2+ years of experience in a nursing role.
• Post-operative open heart care experience.
• Critical care experience is highly preferred.
• Experience with chest tube and drain management.
• Ability to manage pre- and post-procedure care for radial and femoral access patients.
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring including reading and interpreting cardiac rhythm strips.
• Advanced knowledge of cardiac and pulmonary abnormalities.
• Active American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Nursys must show an active Ohio/OH or Compact RN license.
