Job Description
The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing a variety of specialized technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound utilizing high frequency sound waves to assist medical personnel in detecting anatomical abnormalities.
Responsibilities
- Performs ultrasound procedures according to departmental protocols while completing exams within designated timeframes.
- Utilizes EPIC and other computer systems for patient scheduling and clerical duties.
- Conducts portable ultrasound exams and demonstrates proficiency in breast ultrasound techniques.
- Assists physicians with biopsy and other interventional procedures, ensuring patient care and sterile techniques are followed.
- Evaluates and maintains image quality, processing images of pathological conditions according to standard procedures.
- Calibrates, cleans, and performs routine maintenance on ultrasound equipment.
- Provides technical assistance and instruction to students and medical residents.
- Communicates effectively with patients ensuring an understanding of procedures and care.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Must be a registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS).
- Graduate of an approved Ultrasound School with 2 years of training in Allied Health/College.
- 1 year of clinical experience in ultrasound is preferred.
- Must possess an understanding of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology, as well as safety and infection control procedures.
