This is a 13-week contract position.
Schedule
Night shifts: 3 × 12 hour shifts per week, totaling 36 hours. Required to work every other weekend and every other holiday.
Job Description
The Respiratory Therapist assesses patients' respiratory care needs based on a variety of data and plans, organizes, performs, and evaluates treatment modalities to meet those needs. The role ensures the very best patient and family experience by optimizing all customer interactions.
Responsibilities
- Consistently performs and documents thorough patient assessments.
- Establishes appropriate care plans.
- Communicates with other members of the patient care team.
- Performs and documents routine therapeutic modalities, including aerosolized medications, secretion management, and oxygen therapy.
- Initiates and manages mechanical ventilators according to established protocols.
- Provides patient and family education related to disease management.
- Assists in intra-hospital transport of mechanically ventilated patients.
- Manages acute airway situations and sets up non-invasive monitoring.
- Assists with discharge planning for patients needing respiratory-related durable medical equipment.
- Maintains compliance with regulatory requirements and safety standards.
- Collects and processes arterial blood gas samples.
- Functions as the Shift Coordinator and preceptor for orientees and students, and assists in medical procedures as required.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
Applicants must have appropriate credentials and licenses to practice as a Respiratory Therapist. Additional certification and relevant experience may be specified based on institutional requirements.
