Schedule
Friday, Saturday, Sunday (36 or 40 hours per week), on call, callback and holidays as per unit needs. Must be able to report within 30 minutes for on-call shifts (2-3 call shifts per month).
Job Description
The X-Ray Technologist is responsible for performing radiographic imaging procedures as per physician orders while ensuring patient safety and comfort. The role includes verifying patient information, using radiologic equipment, and maintaining accurate patient records. The technologist will explain procedures to patients, position them correctly, and assure high-quality imaging for diagnostic purposes.
Responsibilities
- Verify patients' identity and review physician orders before commencing x-ray procedures.
- Utilize x-ray equipment to capture images of patients' bones, tissues, and organs as directed by physicians.
- Explain x-ray procedures to patients and respond to their inquiries.
- Position patients appropriately, including assisting those with limited mobility.
- Ensure the safe handling of all radiologic equipment and maintain radiation dose to patients at minimal levels.
- Observe and assess each patient's condition to meet their age-specific needs.
- Produce high-quality diagnostic images for interpretation by radiologists.
- Promptly report any damage or malfunctions in x-ray equipment.
- Utilize electronic patient information systems to verify patient details and ensure accuracy in imaging records.
- Maintain accurate patient records by properly identifying images and ensuring they are sent to the PACS system.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology.
- Certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- New York State license (or ability to obtain license prior to starting).
- Minimum of 2 years experience as an X-Ray Technologist.
- Experience at a Level 1 trauma center.
- Must have recent Operating Room experience and demonstrate ability to use c-arm/o-arm in the past 8 months.
- Current BLS certification (American Heart Association only).
