Job Description
The Emergency Department RN provides professional nursing care based on current nursing knowledge through the use of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) standards. This includes the nursing process through assessment of patient needs, development of a plan of care to meet those needs, implementation of nursing interventions, and evaluation of patient care outcomes for a diverse patient population, from neonates to geriatrics. This position is subject to scheduled on-call assignments as needed, depending on community event influence on Emergency Department patient volumes.
Responsibilities
- Triage every patient entering the emergency care system and determine priorities of care based on physical and psycho-social needs.
- Develop and implement plans of care based on ongoing assessments.
- Ensure the availability and functionality of supplies and equipment for patient care.
- Manage complications and emergencies per hospital policies and ENA standards.
- Recognize changes in patient health status and direct appropriate care for patient safety.
- Document patient responses to interventions to facilitate competent medical care.
- Educate patients and families on treatment and discharge planning.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Current Pennsylvania RN licensure.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, renewed every two years.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, renewed every two years.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, renewed every two years.
- Valid National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Preferably, experience with EPIC Computer Charting.
