Job Description

The Med Surg Float Pool Nurse provides comprehensive patient care across multiple medical-surgical units, adapting quickly to varying patient populations and unit workflows. Nurses are expected to function independently, demonstrate strong clinical judgment, and uphold all hospital policies and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Float between all inpatient Medical-Surgical units, including step down and emergency department (for med surg holds).
• Orient at the main campus on the start date and participate in a short orientation at affiliated units.
• Maintain a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 on standard Med Surg units, with potential variations based on unit acuity and staffing.
• Adhere to all hospital policies, including attendance, documentation standards, and medication safety protocols.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Minimum 2 years Med Surg experience.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHHS certifications.
• Strong proficiency in EPIC.
• Ability to float between multiple units comfortably.
