Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed. The therapist works within the scope of professional license and with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans.
• Explain the purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients, providing necessary education upon discharge.
• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning using various methods.
• Conduct oximetry and capnography monitoring according to policy.
• Review patients' chest x-rays and determine the need for further evaluation.
• Monitor patient’s cardiopulmonary status, including performing 12-Lead EKG and recognizing basic arrhythmias.
• Assist with respiratory care procedures such as bronchoscopy, chest tube placement, etc.
• Perform tracheostomy care and assist in the insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
• Perform arterial punctures and monitor, record, and report test results.
• Foster communication with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding the efficiency of therapy administered to patients.
• Maintain accurate respiratory therapy documentation and charging.
• Facilitate preventative maintenance and repair of equipment as needed.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

NJ State Licensure is required for this position.
