Job Description

The Emergency Department Nurse provides professional nursing care based on current nursing knowledge adhering to the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) standards. This includes assessing patient needs, developing and implementing plans of care, and evaluating patient care outcomes for the neonate through geriatric age population. The position is subject to scheduled on-call assignments due to community event influences on Emergency Department patient volumes.

Responsibilities

• Triage every patient entering the emergency care system, determining care priorities based on physical and psycho-social needs.
• Conduct hourly rounding in the department and half-hour rounding in the waiting room.
• Develop and implement a plan of care based on ongoing assessments, ensuring that supplies and equipment are available and in working order.
• Manage complications and emergencies as per protocols and ENA standards.
• Recognize changes in patient health status, directing appropriate care to ensure patient safety.
• Document patient responses to interventions and acts on them to facilitate competent medical care.
• Educate patients and families about treatment prior to initiation and ensure understanding of discharge information.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current Pennsylvania RN licensure.
• American Heart Association's BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications, renewed every two years.
• Valid National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
