Registered Nurse - PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)

This is a 12-week contract position.

Schedule

Alternating shifts: 3 days of 12-hour shifts from 07:00 to 19:00, followed by 3 nights of 12-hour shifts from 19:30 to 07:30. Manager may consider straight night shifts for qualified candidates.

Job Description

The Shock Trauma PACU is a 12-bay unit providing vital peri-anesthesia care specializing in traumatic injury management. This role entails vigilant pre and post-operative care for outpatients and inpatients undergoing scheduled or emergency surgery across various surgical and procedural services. Nurses in this unique setting must demonstrate clinical flexibility, managing care beyond traditional peri-anesthesia protocols, including procedural space support and patient overflow from the Trauma Resuscitation Unit.

Responsibilities

• Provide pre and post-operative care to surgical patients.
• Manage the critical care of ventilated patients and titrate vasopressors effectively.
• Administer blood products and conduct fluid resuscitation as necessary.
• Assess and manage airways for patients in the PACU.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Active Maryland RN license.
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications.
• Strong experience in PACU or ICU settings is required.
• Preferred experience in Level I Trauma Centers.
