Job Description

Med/Surg Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. Responsibilities include consulting and coordinating with health care team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans, administering and recording prescribed medications, and monitoring and adjusting specialized equipment used on patients.

Responsibilities

• Educate patients on surgical procedures and post-treatment home care needs.
• Monitor and record patients' medical information and vital signs.
• Provide bedside care for pre- and post-surgical patients.
• Initiate patient education plans as prescribed by physicians.
• Change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs.
• Prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations and treatments.
• Respond to life-saving situations per nursing standards and protocols.
• Participate in discharge planning and utilize time management skills.
• Record all care information accurately and in a timely manner.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Must have a Texas RN or multi-state compact license.
• Must have BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
• Minimum of 2 years recent Med/Surg experience in an acute care hospital setting.
