Level 1 RN - Psychiatric Emergency Room

Job Description

The Level 1 RN in the Psychiatric Emergency Room will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients experiencing mental health emergencies. This role involves conducting intake assessments, planning and providing nursing care, making nursing diagnoses, administering medications, and collaborating with psychiatrists and other behavioral health staff to design treatment plans.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history.
• Plan and provide nursing care for patients, including nursing diagnoses and treatment recommendations.
• Consult with psychiatrists and behavioral health staff in treatment plan development.
• Administer medications and monitor reactions to psychotropic drugs.
• Arrange further medical attention when necessary.
• Assist clients in understanding emotional disturbances and the need for treatment.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for both staff and patients.
• Test vital signs and ensure appropriate pain treatments.
• Document patient information, treatments, immunizations, and laboratory results accurately.
• Perform administrative tasks such as filing and answering phones.
• Provide courteous service to patients and the public.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Valid NY RN License.
• BLS Certification (American Heart Association only).
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in nursing.
• Telemetry experience preferred.

Schedule

This position requires straight night shifts, including holidays, on-call, callback, and charge duties as needed.
