Job Description

Functioning within the Health System's mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures, the Registered Nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for the care of assigned patients on his/her shift. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care using age-specific criteria. Judgments are made based upon scientific knowledge and clinical skills. The RN also assists in planning, directing, and teaching non-RN staff such as LPN/PCT and Unit Secretaries.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Provide pre- and post-procedure care for patients with radial and femoral access.
• Manage chest tubes and other drains.
• Read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips; recognize and respond to changes in cardiac rhythms.
• Assist in procedures such as chest tube removals and management of temporary pacers.
• Float to all units within skill level as necessary.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• 2+ years of experience in nursing - Required
• Post-operative open heart care experience - Required
• Critical care experience - Highly Preferred
• Active American Heart Association BLS - Required
• Active American Heart Association ACLS - Required
• Nursys must show active Ohio/OH or Compact RN License - Required
• Skills checklist, current to 1 year, pertinent to the specialty (PCU) - Required
