Registered Nurse - Observation Unit

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule

This position requires flexibility with rotating shift schedules, including days, evenings, nights, and on-call duties. Candidates should be available for charge duties, holidays, and weekends as needed.

Job Description

The Observation Unit provides care for adult patients requiring additional monitoring to assess whether they need hospital admission or can be safely discharged. This fast-paced environment manages an average of 20 to 27 patients daily, with a typical length of stay around 27 hours. The unit benefits from continuous provider coverage, caring for a diverse patient population including those in emergency observation and admitted boarding status.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess patients in the observation unit
• Collaborate with medical team members to determine proper treatment plans
• Provide high-quality nursing care in a dynamic environment
• Document patient information and communicate effectively with healthcare team
• Assist in decision-making regarding patient admission or discharge

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current RN License (NY License ONLY)
• Minimum of two years of Med/Surg experience
• Telemetry experience required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association ONLY)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA ONLY)
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred
