Job Description

The Registered Nurse in Maternal Child Health is responsible for providing direct patient care to a designated group of patients within the department. This role involves collaborating with unit leadership and adhering to the scope of practice defined by nursing governing bodies, ensuring the observation, data collection, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patients’ holistic needs.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients and families, recognizing normal parameters, deviations, and abnormalities in physical, emotional, developmental, and behavioral status.
• Utilize a person-centered care approach in developing care plans and prioritizing nursing care to meet the needs of patients and their families.
• Plan care effectively, demonstrating the ability to prioritize both expected and unanticipated needs while involving patients and families in establishing care goals.
• Demonstrate critical thinking by making informed clinical decisions and proactively addressing potential issues.
• Show competence in implementing the necessary technical skills for patient care and remain current on departmental policies and standards.
• Act as a resource to peers and foster collaboration among healthcare team members for comprehensive patient care.
• Facilitate connections between patients, families, and various disciplines and services as required.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Labor and Delivery experience is required; postpartum experience is preferred.
• Active nursing license required with verification of credentials.
• Competence in core competencies specific to Maternal Child Health nursing.
