Job Description
The Radiology Specialist Assistant provides patient care services in accordance with approved delineation of privileges under the supervision of a physician. This role delivers age-appropriate care across the lifespan and supports the continuum of care through clinical expertise, patient assessment, and collaboration with the healthcare team.
Responsibilities
- Provide medical services to patients within scope of practice and assigned privileges.
- Perform patient assessments using age-specific growth and development principles.
- Deliver safe, high-quality, and compassionate care.
- Assist supervising physician with radiologic procedures and patient management.
- Maintain patient flow and organize clinical workload effectively.
- Provide guidance and direction to clinical staff involved in patient care.
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Ensure compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws, hospital policies, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain confidentiality of protected health information (PHI).
- Perform fluoroscopic procedures, including barium studies, joint injections, paracentesis, thoracentesis, bone marrow biopsies, and various biopsies with imaging guidance.
- Collaborate with radiologists, nurses, and technologists to prepare procedure rooms, manage equipment, and maintain inventory of supplies.
- Document procedures accurately and educate patients on procedures including obtaining informed consent and providing pre- and post-procedure instructions.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, radiation protection standards, and infection control guidelines.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Graduate of an approved course of study acceptable to the New York State Education Department.
- Bachelor's degree required in Radiologic Technology or a related field; certification as a Radiologist Assistant (RA) or Physician Assistant (PA) with radiology focus preferred.
- Current ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification in Radiography; additional certifications in CT, Ultrasound, or Interventional Radiology are highly desirable.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) preferred.
