Job Description
The Physical Therapist will evaluate and treat patients with functional deficits caused by illness, injury, musculoskeletal dysfunction, or birth defects. This role involves working with individuals across various age groups, from newborns to geriatrics, in outpatient, acute care, and post-acute care settings. The Physical Therapist will develop and implement treatment programs and supervise Physical Therapy Assistants (PTAs) and support staff while providing patient, family, and community education.
Responsibilities
- Assess patients to determine their needs and rehabilitation potential, including periodic reassessment.
- Plan individualized treatment programs based on assessment results, physician's orders, and clinical judgment.
- Document all necessary information in the patient's medical record.
- Delegate treatment tasks to PTAs, students, and technicians, and monitor treatment application and results.
- Coordinate services and treatment plans with patients, families, and other healthcare disciplines.
- Serve as a clinical instructor or mentor for PT and PTA students when needed.
- Educate patients and families on disease or injury, treatment plans, self-help measures, and preventive care.
- Provide education to other departments and the public in the form of in-services, lectures, or classes.
- Ensure a safe environment through demonstrated understanding of patient safety principles and effective equipment use.
- Support the hospital's mission, vision, and values, adhering to policies and procedures.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- 1+ years of Physical Therapy experience (required).
- Acute Care experience (required).
- Active Michigan Physical Therapist License (required).
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification (required).
- Skills checklist pertinent to the specialty (required, current to 1 year).
- Two supervisory references with dates of employment (required).
Schedule
This position offers 8-hour shifts with negotiable start times of 7am, 8am, or 9am. The role guarantees 40 hours of work per week.
