Job Description
The Radiologic Technologist independently performs imaging procedures and competently executes a variety of technical tasks requiring judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. The role involves employing prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes effectively.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates proper positioning and appropriate radiographic techniques for all interventional procedures.
- Exhibits understanding of correct patient preparation, equipment operations, and patient monitoring systems.
- Supports other departments with general radiographic procedures as necessary.
- Fosters an environment that promotes aseptic technique and patient safety during procedures, incorporating a time-out process.
- Administers contrast agents according to assigned protocols under proceduralist guidance.
- Interacts compassionately with patients and co-workers, demonstrating caring, listening, dignity, and respect.
- Works effectively as a team member across departments to expedite patient care.
- Communicates instructions to patients clearly and concisely, helping to alleviate their fears and reinforcing cooperation.
- Properly identifies patients using two identifiers and adheres to universal protocols during procedures.
- Reviews patient histories and assesses physician orders, applying departmental protocols to enhance data acquisition.
- Documents patient history in electronic records as required.
- Ensures proper coding, tracking, and archiving of exams conducted, including entering charges accurately.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology or an accredited program in invasive cardiovascular technology.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience required.
- ARRT Certificate, Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist, or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Licensure as required by state regulations (e.g., PA Act 31, PA Act 33, PA Act 34, PA Act 73).
