Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) assumes responsibility and accountability for the care of assigned patients during their shift in line with the health system’s mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures. The RN will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, applying age-specific criteria and making judgments based on scientific knowledge and clinical skills. Additionally, the RN will mentor non-RN staff, including LPNs, PCTs, and Unit Secretaries.
Responsibilities
- Provide post-operative care for patients recovering from open heart surgery.
- Manage chest tubes and other drains as required.
- Deliver pre- and post-procedure care for patients with radial and femoral access.
- Conduct accurate cardiac monitoring, including interpreting cardiac rhythm strips.
- Assist with procedures, including chest tube removal and management of temporary pacers.
- Utilize and troubleshoot non-invasive ventilation devices and other oxygen delivery systems.
- Float to all units within skill level as needed.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Minimum 2 years of experience required.
- Post-operative open heart care experience is required.
- Critical care experience is highly preferred.
- Experience in chest tube and drain management is required.
- Proficiency in cardiac monitoring and recognizing changes in cardiac rhythms is required.
- Advanced knowledge of cardiac and pulmonary abnormalities is required.
- Active American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications are required.
- Current active Ohio RN License or Compact RN License is required.
